Don’t listen about the poor autofocus, at this price its a bargin
By Keith Rembisz
The camera “media” gave this bad reviews before the 2.0.2 update which makes it autofoucus much better. Im a full frame shooter (d600) but always like a backup for my car hip etc. Ive had many mirrorless cameras Olympus ep1, epl2, omd e5, sony nex 5 and 5r, and nikon 1v1. This smokes them all by the LENS ALONE! M4/3 lenses (primes only) are great but you pay for that and could actually buy a full frame set up if you bought a M4/3 prime lens or 2. This is an aps-c sensor, much bigger than m4/3 and the 2.7 crop nikon. I was suprised how bad the sony nex system overview was, you couldnt change settings without a big deal – iso etc. I would actually miss shoots while fumbling through the menu. The nikon 1v1 was good but the sensor is tiny and had poor contrast and high noise. I would feel comfortable about dropping the eos m and having no damage, its that strong. The screen is awsome and again, the prime lens is a 35mm focal lens and a great walk around lens. It provides great bokeh @ 2 and 2.8 when close and its rated pretty good by dxo (13) for sharpness. If this lens were a M4/3 it would cost 400-500 alone without a camera body. The lens is fast and i have used it for macro with great outcomes. I have left few reviews about products on amazon but feel that this is better than the media darling m4/3 and innovative sony. Sony camera are loaded with gimmics and “apps” that proud photographers wont use. The nex 3 and 5/r can not be tripod mounted due to the shape of the camera. Again, I am a full frame snob and I do much night photography and the noise is much different, but buy a sharp $20 leather camera holster from china and you have a great deal with the eos m 22. In comparison to other mirrorless cameras, just think of it as buying the lens and getting the body, an extra battery, sd card, and a holster for free. When the eos m2 comes out these guys will be even cheaper.

Makes other Canons feel like they were designed by cavemen.
This camera is an unbelievable deal. I have a hard time finding any downsides to buying this camera over the 7d, 60d, txi series Canon cameras. I am a video producer who loves to get great quality video with as little gear to carry as possible.
The upsides are fantastic: smaller form factor which opens up a much higher range of gear that you can use. Simple adapters to fit not only EF lenses but the cheaper yet awesome quality FD/FL lenses as well, with only a little increase in crop factor and no vignetting around the edges, unlike the Canon EF mount cameras that are not mirrorless. (I have the adapter and am loving my Canon FD 1.4 50mm.) The lenses (EF-M) that are available for this camera are fantastic quality, I have seen some beautiful photos taken with the 22mm and have heard that the standard kit lens is an improvement over other Canon kit lenses as well. It has the same sensor as those cameras which can be 5x more expensive! It gets the same fantastic HD Video.
I pulled out the old 7d yesterday for a video shoot and after using the EOS-Ms for the past couple of weeks I couldn’t believe how bulky and cumbersome the 7d is.
It has a touch screen, which is very snappy and sometimes more intuitive than the switches. You can install a special Magic Lantern on these cameras for touch screens. (If you don’t know about Magic Lantern make sure to search the internet because this is the number one thing you are missing out on)
The downsides are slight: since it uses a SD card as opposed to a CF card it does have a little bit of a bottleneck in terms of how much data it can write to the card. If you are using Magic Lantern this means that RAW video and increased data rates will most likely not be possible, whereas the full frame 5ds are very hopeful to achieve this. Less physical buttons may be bothersome to some people, not to me. Lack of flash might be a problem, I personally couldn’t care less since my main purpose is video. The battery doesn’t last as long as those larger, bulkier, cameras.
When I tell people about this camera they are blown away at the amount of features compared to the price. You get the same great image quality as the more than 1,400$ Canons at a fraction of the price PLUS it has features which they don’t. Its hard to believe, but its that good.

I ALREADY WROTE A REVIEW ON THIS CAMERA
By Bill McLean
This camera with the 18-355mm zoom lens is really fine for outdoor daylight photography. I have already formed the habit of carrying it around with me when not expecting photo opportunities. Indoors I use the f-2 STM Prime wide angle lens. The prime is sharpest, but the zoom lens is very certainly sharp enough for even greatly enlarged prints.
I really miss the view finder. The EF-M only has a 3″ screen to point the camera. I still can use the camera effectively with this screen, but sun glair is a problem and I cannot catch fast movement. When I go out for the purpose of taking photographs, I always take along my Canon EOS Rebel T4i, with the lens’s I think I may want to use. The EOS-M then takes a back seat.
However, I give the EOS-M 5-STARS because all the photographs I can use it for are the same quality as is the EOS Rebel 4i. And it is omnipresent because of its size.

A point and shoot camera is small enough to fit in a pocket or small bag. It has a fixed lens with mechanical and digital zoom options. Most of the leading digital point and shoot cameras provide a good viewing area on the back, lots of manual and automatic settings. A few cameras let you choose your aperture, speed and related film settings as well as a whole host of features to control the look of your pictures.
