Good camera, lacks support for newer browsers.
I am very pleased with the camera and its capabilities. The picture is good, and setup is rather simple. I purchased this camera over a similar Dropcam because of Foscam’s local recording capability (no cloud space purchase required). The only problem I have with this camera, is with the http server. The page’s applet is not supported by newer versions of Firefox and isn’t supported by Microsoft’s newer Edge browser. I have to use Internet Explorer for viewing and configuration.

Good camera, but had to set up manually
First of all, setting up the C1 from the provided materials was a total failure. The Android app does nothing at all automatically to find a camera, and the OS X setup CD was out of date, wouldn’t even run
This is how I was able to set up the camera to be able to log into my wireless network on its own: I didn’t even register the camera at Foscam’s website, but I did download the Foscam camera setup program “Equipment Search Tool”, downloaded for Mac OS, and it ONLY worked when I connected the C1 to my wireless router by ethernet cable. It found the address of the camera. Then I went on my Mac, and Safari browser and typed in the address of the camera from the Equipment Search Tool. For example, mine happened to be 192.168.1.16:88. 88 is the factory default port number that the camera talks to the router on. In Safari, the C1 login window came up and I used for the username “admin” and left the password field blank. It’ll immediately ask you to put in a new username and password for your security. Then, to set up the camera to talk to your router (just like any computer or phone does), just go to the Settings tab along the top, then click on the Network menu on the left, and click on Wireless Settings. Hit the Scan button to search for your wireless network’s name, and enter the password on the right. It connected! HIT SAVE!! Now you can disconnect the ethernet cable and log into it locally.
If you wish to log into the camera from outside of your home, you have to do two vital things: First, set up your Foscam C1 to use a fixed wireless address with your router (go to Settings, Network, then IP Configuration menus). Setting this will make sure that if the power goes out, the C1 will ALWAYS have the same address to talk to your wireless router instead of giving it a random address each time. Second, you must set up your wireless router to talk to the outside world using Port Forwarding, using the fixed address that you gave it in the previous step. There are many articles on doing this on the web, applicable for all brands of cameras and routers, the concept is the same.

A remote surveillance security system permits you to monitor your home while away. If you go on a vacation, are in the office, or away on business, you can have access via internet to watch what your surveillance video cameras are catching on online video. This type of secureness system is well suited for families who are often away for extended periods, offices which may have chronic theft or perhaps vandalism problems, and homes with members that need the aid of a caretaker if left only.
