4I like the picture quality of the gw2089ip camera
By Amazon Customer
I like the picture quality of the gw2089ip camera. the gw908n dvr displays, records, and plays back recordings well. This system has a nice picture quality on a gigabit ethernet switch. I am using only one camera on an eight channel system so I’m not stressing the system. I do plan to add more cameras later. probably from the gw line. However the software in the dvr is tricky to setup for motion triggered recording. The area selected for motion scan is lost if a change is made on another screen. The area is also lost if a restart is done. I have not found a way to permanently save the area I want scanned. I have a tree and plants in the area scanned and dvr seems very sensitive to any foliage movement even at low sensitivity setting to movement of the foliage though the movement does not cross the area grid segments. Slow moving objects in the area are not recorded the entire time of their presents in the scanned area though they cross grid segments. The camera enclosure is nice and I had no problem mounting it once I settled a solid mounting backing system. The enclosure for the dvr circuit board is useless. No usable mounting bracket for a customer installed harddrive. The dvr is now mounted vertically on the back of my computer desk. So the front panel buttons are useless but the mouse interface works well and I’ve not needed the buttons.

5I like it!
By Smokehouse Willy
I’ve had this running for a couple of weeks now, and it’s working great. I’m using the GW-5037IP cameras, and the TP-Link TL-SG1008P and PE switches. I would’ve bought this all in a set, but these new cameras were only sold separately. And, by using remote switches instead of the 16 port switch that came with the set, I ran a lot less cable. And the total price was almost $200 less.
I have two complaints, though. First, the instruction book is horrible. It’s not very complete, and it looks like it was written by someone who is just learning english. Fortunately, most everything is plug and play, and it all came together pretty good. My second complaint is the record by motion feature. A sensitivity setting that works well for day might not work well for night. I think it has something to do with the night time infra-red lights. It attracts bugs, and they keep setting off the motion detector. It’d be nice if you could set it for different sensitivities at different times of the day. Other than that, I have no complaints.
I had to call tech support a couple off times. I envisioned I’d be talking with someone I couldn’t understand in a third world country. Wrong! They’re in southern California, and were extremely helpful, although you have to wait for them to call you back. They fixed my problems, and even got a camera to work that I thought was dead.
So, since this system is working good, I give it 5 stars. It’s brand new, so all I can say is “So far, so good”.

5it is like a running fan
By DC Reviews
Alright so this NVR does not have any PoE ports so if you are wanting a NVR with 4-8 PoE ports where your camera can plug directly into, I suggest you look at the GW2208EP as that one has 8 PoE ports where you can actually plug your cameras directly into them.

This NVR is basically just a single stand alone box where you have your Ethernet cable going into your router and your HDMI or VGA cable going to a monitor so that you can manage it. It only has a single Ethernet port that connects to your router so that means you will need to have the IP addresses of your IP cameras so that you can add it to the NVR, of course you can “detect” the cameras on your network, but that doesn’t always work as planned so it is advised to have the IP of the camera, the username and password as well as the port that the camera is running off in order to add it to this NVR. This is a bit harder than plugging the cameras directly into the NVR as you need to manually add them instead of having them being detected.

You will probably need a PoE switch to connect to your router to power your cameras if you are going to use this NVR as mention above as it does not have any ports on it other than the one connecting to your router.

The one problem I have with this receiver is that is it LOUD, I can hear it 1 room away, it is like a running fan, so I really suggest keeping this in a cabinet or something as it is a lot louder than your computer fans it is basically like a small desk fan running. I can understand the fan to keep it cool, which it does, but it is TOO loud for me. It doesn’t get hot while in a hot room in a cabinet so that is good.

I will post some images of the install and some of the picture quality of the screen soon, stay tuned.

QUALITY:

The quality of the case is good, it is heavy and does not take up too much room, but I do think that it quite big for its ports, I would have preferred if it was smaller.

The device keeps itself very cool even in a hot room, however the problem with that is that the fans are very loud, it seems that the fans are running on full blast 24/7, it is quite loud so you might not want to keep it on a desktop as it will make you go crazy after a while, the best thing would be a cabinet or server room such as a closet.

It is made of metal and I didn’t notice any problems with the quality of the device itself as it looks great without any blemishes on it at all.

ACCESSORIES:

Comes with a mouse which is kind of small to use, a power cord and a 1TB Seagate harddrive. I am not sure about the quality of Seagate hard drives in a surveillance system but I am sure the drive that it came with is made for a computer and not a CCTV system so I am not sure how long it will last until it fails.

DESIGN:

The design is good, it is not that long horizontally, but it is higher than expected, I wish it were a bit thinner with the harddrives going side to side instead of up and down on the trays.

SETUP/SOFTWARE:

I have added a WD Purple 4TB (CCTV drive) in addition to the 1TB Seagate that comes with it and had no problems with the setup, first you need to boot the device and run the setup wizard.

Basically the setup wizard sets up if you wanted to view the cameras online or something like that and it is basically setting up your network and other settings to use with your phone such as some software. I didn’t do the WAN setup due to the fact I only wanted the CCTV locally and not on the internet.

The setup did not detect my 3 cameras initially, 2x from GW security, and 1x Hikvision 3-4mp camera. I had them plugged in via Ethernet into my router via a PoE switch. After the setup you are greeted with the main page with several cameras and basically the main menu.

There aren’t that much settings that you can do, but the first thing I did was go to the menu to change the resolution since it was out of sync, after I did that I basically formatted both of the harddrives and reconnected the cameras and BOOM they were indeed connected to the device.

The menus are in English but are kind of hard to navigate, when compared to other NVR’s I have used, this one has moderate features, it is missing some key features that I was unable to find on the NVR.

The web panel on this NVR is spectacular! It does not lag at all, once you find the IP address of the NVR on your network, you can log into the NVR using the ADMIN and 888888 password and you are greeted with a web panel that is much better than the regular interface. The web panel runs really smoothly and looks quite modern.

From the web panel, I was able to easily detect and add cameras to the NVR that were on my network, I was super surprised that it found and added the cameras so easily.

The web panel DOES NOT require a plugin to use which is super nice because on the home page of the web panel, there is a camera grid which displays your cameras in real time, for the most part I did notice a 2 second delay but the grid and enlarging to a specific camera played video super smoothly without any problem. I am really surprised that the web panel played such smooth video without requiring me to download and install any plugin, it just worked. I love being able to view high quality and smooth video in a web panel.

The web panel is great; it doesn’t lag at all even if I am configuring the cameras. I am highly impressed that the web panel allowed me to modify every single setting on my Hikvision camera like literally every single setting was available to be modified in the menu. It was even able to detect the motion settings (email alerts) that I had set on the camera and all the grids that I had configured on there and basically modified it without any lag and was saved successfully.

Quality is good, no problems with that.

CONCLUSION:

In the end. this NVR is OK for normal usage, however the turn off for me was the fan, it was way too loud, it was like I had my air conditioner fan blowing at me 24//7, I may try to swap out the fan.

I like that the device runs cool and is able to accept and format any harddrive as well as connect any camera that I had plugged into it which is nice.

The web panel of this NVR is one of the best that I have used, not only is the panel smooth, but I am able to view smooth streams from my cameras without a plugin, I am able to modify all settings for my camera and most importantly it was easy to detect and add my cameras on my network via the web panel.

BEST WEB PANEL EVER!!

In the end, I have more to say about this NVR but I have just kept it to the key points.

I did get this for review, but my review is honest and unbiased.
