4Solid case. Little practical documentation. Mostly monochrome picture in average lighting.
I installed this camera as part of a two camera GW Security IP ethernet NVR home system. The case is of solid construction. This camera has manual tilt, zoom and focus. I am giving the camera four stars as the documentation is minimal. The camera can be powered using a GW Network Video Recorder (NVR) with a built in Power Over Ethernet (POE) switch or a stand alone POE switch. So power can run to the camera over a standard ethernet cable using POE and video then goes back to the NVR over the same ethernet cable. For this to work, both the switch and camera need to support POE. The camera can be powered by a separate power adapter which is not supplied (or needed if you use POE).

The default IP address of both GW cameras that I purchased was, subnet mask So you must change the IP address on at least one camera if you want to add a second camera. I was eventually able to configure the IP address of the first camera using the built in software from a GW NVR. This is not a plug and play system. An IT department should not have trouble installing this system. Note: The NVR I used had a default pw of 123456, not “empty” as shown in the documentation.

Consider having the ethernet cable enter from the side/back of the dome camera or you could make a very large whole in the ceiling for the ethernet connector to pass through. I installed the camera centered over the ethernet cable using a small hole in the ceiling and it was a tight fit for all the connectors under the camera. Loosen the allen head screw and slide the camera on the base to separate the camera from the base. To tilt/pan/focus I removed the three security screws holding the plastic dome/ring using the supplied security tool, exposing the camera. The plastic cover/ring is then suspended by a safety cord. There is one screw that holds the tilt position. The zoom and focus “handles” serve double duty as lock screws. So loosen the handles just a bit. Adjust the deeper zoom handle, then the more superficial focus handle, then tighten both handles. I found the focus very sensitive to set. If you like the default zoom position, you may want to leave the zoom and focus alone.

If you want remote power tilt/zoom/focus consider ordering a camera with powered tilt/zoom/focus.

Even with the house lights on, I get mostly monochrome images indoors. Color only comes on in very bright indoor lighting. The IR lights come on, obviously, when lights are off.

At 10 frames per second (fps) the brochure reports 5 megapixels and at 25 fps the brochure reports below 2 megapixels. The unit supports motion detection when used with a GW NVR. Most configuration works with the Abelle protocol. I used a Windows computer to configure the camera name. I had the best reliability (network connectivity to a GW NVR) using the ONVIF protocol.

5this camera doesn’t come with any manuals so you will need to use the included CD to access the PDF of the manual for this camer
By DC Reviews
First thing, this camera isn’t for beginners as even for myself at an intermediate level, it took me a while to figure out how to setup and configure this camera as it is quite different than the other GW Security cameras that I have used.. First of all, this camera doesn’t come with any manuals so you will need to use the included CD to access the PDF of the manual for this camera to get crucial information such as the IP address and admin login for this camera which I am disappointed that it didn’t come on the information sheet that was in the box, I actually had to go into the software PDF to look for it since it was different from the other cameras that I had used.

This camera DOES work with Blue Iris HOWEVER, it took me a while to figure out as it doesn’t work with the GW Security settings that are in the program. You could use the software that comes with the camera, but I prefer to use Blue Iris and so there is something that you need to change to make sure that the camera will work, if you use the settings in Blue Iris, it won’t work properly, what I found was that in Blue Iris, the port for the RTSP us 554, but for this camera, it is 8554, not sure why they did that but you can change the port either in Blue Iris or on the camera to make it work. After I changed the port (spent about an hour trying to figure it out) the camera worked flawlessly with Blue Iris.

The camera is made by IR Lab which is an Asian company from my research, I believe the other GW cameras that I have taken a look at were made in India, and I must say I am very surprised of the quality of this camera because the web panel for this camera is exceptional, it is better than all the panels that I have used, even better than the Hikvision one. The web panel is super smooth and basically any changes that you make to the camera are applied immediately and you can see the changes, the panel does not lag at all, unlike other panels that I have used, this web panel does not lag I can go to all the panels without it freezing up or making my cam lag, other than some slight translational errors, the panel is A+ as it is not laggy and super smooth and basically. So far, I have tested all of the features and they all work without any issue so far. The only problem is that it to view the live stream, it requires ActiveX so it will only work in Internet Explorer and not any other browser which kind unfortunate for me because I am able to manage the camera on the web client on a Mac, but I can’t view the changes on the stream because I don’t have that plugin.

One thing to note here that the IP for this camera is which DID NOT show up in my router like it usually does, I basically had to install the software to search my network (the software comes in the CD that comes with the camera) to find out the IP, kind of extraneous as the IP is not shown in the pamphlets or anything in the box…. I thought it was like the usual GW cameras, but this one is different, also if you have a 192.168.1.x router, you will need to use the included software “UC” in CD to change the IP address to fit your router by searching for the camera and changing the IP so that it will work.

The admin username and password is “admin”, “admin” and the password is not “123456” like it usually is of course once again, there was no information in the box about the password for the login so once again I had to resort to putting the CD into my CD rom drive and then opening up the instructional PDF just to get the admin password so I could get into the web panel. Once again, they should put something in the box which makes it easier to get the IP and password.

Daytime quality is exceptional, very clear as expected for a 3mp camera, no problems with that as the video is smooth and sharp. The night quality on the other hand is only decent, it is kind of fuzzy and blurry at times and needs refocusing sometimes, so if you are looking for a good night camera, this one is only decent even though it works great during the day, I am guessing I need to adjust the focusing more to make it sharper at night, especially with something in front of it, it tends to focus on the wrong stuff at night.

The build quality and look of the camera is very nice, it is of medium size and is made of metal and feels highly sturdy and is of great quality and it seems it will hold in the weather. It does get warm while you have it plugged in for a while. The PoE works fine without a problem, HOWEVER there are no blinking lights on the ethernet adapter so you don’t know if there is a connection or not AND the the ethernet is kind of LOOSE if you don’t plug it in and click it in all the way. If there were lights on the device I would know if it were plugged in as it were blinking, but without the lights, it wasn’t working initially as I didn’t plug it in all the way. You need to attach the locking adapter that it comes with to ensure it doesn’t fall out. But one good thing about the plug is that the plug is small, so I don’t actually have to drill as large of a hole in my wall just to install the wire as the ethernet end of the camera is quite small.

All in all, great camera very clear during the day, decent at night, they need to include the IP and admin password in the box instead of having to look at the PDF for that information (need a CD drive to read CD). This camera is not for beginners as it is too complicated to set-up initially, but once you know how it works, it isn’t that bad. Seems you need to manually set the IP of these cameras if you have multiple of them as they have a static IP of Works in Blue Iris after changing some settings.

I did get this for review, but I can assure you I did test this camera out and my review is honest and unbiased.

A lot of crimes are taking place in the home. This kind of has increased the need to have a security system in your home. Parents and homeowners aren’t always at home. Thus, important things and people are left at home unprotected and unsafe from people who are out to do them harm. As parents are gone for a long time everyday, a surveillance DVR is the only thing that can manage this as compared to VCRs that can simply manage small amounts of time.
