Solidly Built Surveillance IP Camera with Manual Zoom and Night Vision
The GW-1371IP camera is solidly built, and has a cast aluminum housing. The camera itself resides in a clear plastic dome with rubber seals, so it’s well protected from the elements. Note that this is not a remote control Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera, rather it is fixed to a single view. However, it does have a manual optical zoom feature of approximately 4x. The lens has about a 70-degree field of view at minimum zoom level.
Items shipping with the camera is a short user guide, a product brochure, software CD and a small toolkit. The toolkit consists of mounting screws (3), expandable anchors (3), a T20 Torx wrench, and a small Allen wrench. For initial setup, you’ll need the Torx wrench to remove 3 screws to access to the dome portion of the camera, allowing you to change camera orientation, and the focus and zoom level if desired. The Allen wrench is used to back out a small screw in the base for mounting. The base also has a screw cap that can be removed and replaced by conduit, in order to protect the cabling.
I’ve installed this camera on my home network connected to a standard Ethernet switch. To use the POE (Power Over Ethernet) feature you’ll need to use a POE switch. The obvious advantage of POE is that only one cable is necessary. Otherwise, you will need to use a 12 volt “wall wart” AC adapter, which means an additional cable running into the camera.
The native resolution of the camera is 1280×960, and the daylight image quality is very clear and sharp. The camera automatically switches between daylight (color) and infrared (b/w) depending on the ambient light. This is controlled by a photocell mounted on the camera. The night vision feature also worked well. When active, illumination is provided by the 30 Infrared LED’s on the front of the camera. In the dark these glow faintly red. Illumination distance according to the specifications is 20 meters, but in practice it seems to be a bit less, roughly 40 feet.
Documentation is the only real weak point of this camera. However, if you have worked with IP cameras before, you should have no difficulty setting it up. Documentation provided consists of two paper brochures, with additional documentation on the included mini-CD. Some of the wording in the documentation is due to poor translation, which can make it hard to follow.
The included UC Video Surveillance software works well and only supports Windows. Although there is no stated support for Windows 10, I did not experience any problems running with that operating system. The installer searches for the camera and automatically configures a static IP address on your network. You can then easily change the camera’s IP address to whatever you wish on your network. The software has a lot of functionality and flexibility and is reasonably intuitive. Besides the UC software, you can also access the camera controls and settings from an Internet Explorer browser. The first time you browse to the IP address of the camera, you will be prompted to install a plug-in. I found the browser interface to be the easiest to work with.
Also available is a free “Seetong” app for Android and iPhone. Since I have an Android phone, I downloaded the app from the Google Play store. Setup of the phone consists of creating a user account on the Seetong web site, and then registering your camera with a numeric code you get from the UC software. The phone app was easy to set up and worked well.
To summarize, this camera has excellent image quality and works well as a surveillance camera for both day and night, and the smartphone app works very well for remote monitoring. So overall I’m very pleased with it. The only shortcoming is the documentation, so I rate it as 4 stars.

High quality cameras at a great price. Poor user interface
By Alvin sng
I purchased two of these security camera systems and they are very high quality. The image quality is super clear and works well at night as well. The dome shaped cameras are very high quality with the white metal trim and glass cover. They are vandal proof and easy to mount. They also look really nice when mounted against a wall. Overall the camera looks & feel just like the expensive professional alternatives.
The DVR system works right out of the box and the default settings work pretty well, however the UI is very difficult to use. There are many poor translations and it feels very buggy. Sometimes the UI is hard to navigate and the controls are off with some features missing. The motion sensor and alarm is pretty useless and I would not count on that. The display does support HDMI would makes the viewing resolution pretty sharp. The mobile app integration is a poorly made app with limited features.
Tips and notes:
This does not come with any Ethernet cables so you’ll need to buy you’re own CAT5e or CAT6 cables.
The cameras can point in nearly any direction but you’ll need to carefully turn the black plastic base as it is very tight. I had a lot of trouble with this part. You can also unscrew the camera to flip to point at an opposite end.
You will need Wall Mount Bracket for Outdoor Dome Security Camera GW807H GW1371IP GW2071IP Series if you’re pointing the camera at a side angle as the camera can’t point in sideway directions well. It works best as a ceiling mount.
Their support was pretty helpful and quick to answer my questions which is a plus!
High quality video
High quality camera material
Great tech support
Hard to use and poorly designed user interface.
The DVR has a loud fan noise
The motion sensor feature does not work
Overall this camera offers excellent value and I would still buy it again in the future. You really can’t beat the price your getting for these cameras.

Good System, not perfect.
Coming from somebody who has almost no familiarity with security systems…it’s pretty easy to set up. However, make sure to verify that the IP Address in the settings screen matches your actual network…as I just assumed that the default was accurate (it was close enough that it looked accurate) and it made the whole process a lot more painful than it needed to be.
Out of the box, you won’t be able to set this thing up to work without a dedicated monitor or a monitor switch to go back and forth from your PC to this system. You will need one VGA or HDMI cable to run from the NVR unit to the monitor or monitor switch. You will also need two additional Ethernet (CAT-5) cables as they only provide enough to hook up to the two cameras… but you’ll need an additional ethernet cable to go from the Network Video Recorder to the switch, and one to go from the switch to the router.
The cameras appear to have LED lights surrounding them for night time use, but I have not had an opportunity to test this feature yet. To get the cameras set up, you’ll have to figure out how to run Ethernet cable from the cameras themselves (which would be outside the house) back into the house to the switch. Barring drilling holes in my walls, I have yet to develop a plan of attack for this. They do, however, provide approximately, two 50′ rolls of Ethernet cable to accomplish this task.
The network interface is somewhat convoluted, and not very intuitive. There is a lot of right clicking, left clicking, and bouncing around in the menu to get to where you need to be. The manual tells you the settings, but not how to get to those settings – and a lot of the instructions are chopped, as if they were translated from another language. Also, the instruction manual itself isn’t very friendly to use….and while it offers a blip to say to go to their website for additional help – the website does not provide additional help at all.
Overall, on a newbie scale, I would rate this system 3 stars. If the instructions had been clearer, if more help had been provided, and if the interface were more intuitive I would have rated it higher. If you are experienced with networking, router setup, port forwarding, and security, and have very little need for the manual this would be a 4 star system easy. However, the interface is still not intuitive.
