5Compact, easy to set up bullet camera with excellent image quality
By Southpaw
This is a wired CVI type camera. Setup is very easy, just plug in the 12VDC power (0.5A) and BNC plugs and you’re ready to go. The DVR I have (GW Security GW5204CVI 4 channel CVI DVR) immediately displays the camera and sets it to the appropriate resolution.

This model does not have a zoom lens, so it is more compact than other GW security cameras. The field of view is quite wide angle, approximately 80 degrees. The camera’s 1080p resolution and wide angle view is a good combination if you need to surveil a large area. Image quality is excellent and very sharp, and has noticeably better image quality when compared to a 720p camera. The 1080p camera will use more disk space, but this is a worthwhile tradeoff.

Camera quality is excellent, the housing is cast aluminum like other GW Security cameras and it is weatherproof. The camera has a metal cover that screws onto the top to shield the lens and housing from rain. The camera mounts with three screws. A ceiling mount would be the typical arrangement, but it can be adjusted for just about any kind of mounting situation. There are several clamping screws on the camera that allow you to orient it any way you need. A small Allen wrench is included for this.

The camera has 36 infrared LEDs for night illumination, and night images are in black and white. When the light level drops below a threshold, the camera automatically switches to night mode and the LEDs illuminate. In the dark you will see them glowing a faint, dull red. I found the illumination distance to be relatively short range, around 30 feet or so, so if you need greater range some additional illumination would need to be provided.

All in all, this is a great camera for keeping watch over a large area. It is a slightly better value than the equivalent 1080p dome model (GW-822CVB) since it has a more weatherproof housing and more IR LEDs, and I give it 5 Stars. This review is just about camera by itself, but GW Security also sells complete video surveillance systems that include this camera.

4Must have when it comes to your family’s security!!
By Bubby’s Mommy
We have wanted a home security system for some time now. This system is, to say the least, fantastic! I wanted to give it a 5 star review, but there are a few things that could be improved, but for the most part, everything is absolutely amazing!
This system comes with 2 cameras; one indoor, and one outdoor, though you could use either one in both indoors and outdoors if you please. It also comes with a DVR, a 500GB hard drive (already installed), a mouse, the remote control, (2) 60 ft cables to connect the cameras to the DVR, and 2 power adapters. The quality of the camera images is amazing. You can see everything, and I mean EVERYTHING you need to from license plates, to facial details. The only thing I might change is the software and the fact that the cameras do not have PTZ options.

Pros:
Camera quality- the details you get are unreal, they are made very well, and they do both day and night vision automatically. Both are visually impressive.
Size- the cameras, nor the DVR are bulky and can be concealed or let out in the open and would not be very noticeable.
Connection- the DVR can be connected directly to your television via HDMI cable, or it can be connected to a computer monitor setup to be used only for security purposes. This is very convenient since I like leaving the TV on during the day for my son to have music and cartoons, and when he naps I like to view the cameras on the TV instead of the small monitor.
Recording- Everything is setup to record on a 48 hour loop, and once 48 hours has passed, it starts to write over the old video data. You can also set up the DVR to record only when there is movement to conserve space, and capture only what might concern you. There is also a setting to ‘snap’ a picture when there is movement.
Alarms- If you set up motion detection, there is also an option to turn on an alarm that will sound on the DVR itself. This will alert you to look and see if there is something wrong. For this and the motion sensor, you can set the sensitivity which is nice if you do not want a bug or rain or small things to trigger the alarm or the record option.
For both the alarm and motion sensor, you can set up the ‘area’ on screen that you would like it to monitor for movement. This is great since our outdoor camera picks up everything in our parking lot as well and I am only concerned with our porch. We set ours to pick up anything directly on our porch and in our yard.

Cons:
Time- it does take a little time to run the cables and hook everything up. For us, it took about 6 hours to install the 2 cameras because we ran the cables through the ceilings and the walls to hide them and give our cameras a cleaner look, and also to conceal them a little better. It could potentially take longer, or it could take less time depending on your experience with these types of things so this isn’t really a con so much as a part of install that is necessary. It solely depends on you, the way you intend to hook them up, and whether you want them inside the walls or ran in corners.
Software- this was the biggest issue we faced, but eventually we got it working properly and were able to connect our phones and laptops so that we could view the video remotely while away from home. Initially you will run an ethernet cable to the DVR itself, then you will download the software to your home computer, laptops, and any mobile devices you please. After setting up the initial settings on the box, you will then need to make sure they are all set correctly by testing the mobile apps. My husband is incredibly smart and works with and on computers for a living and even he had some issues getting the software to work. I would recommend that you turn the P2P function OFF. It’s also not mentioned in the manual at all. You can get the IP address of the machine at the ‘console’ easy enough by going to the network settings. If P2P is left enabled, it will render the DVR mostly useless for network connections over the network.
There are also many free apps on the app store and the android google play store that will work fine for viewing the cameras. MMS for example for is what we use on our Android phones. We did get it working though, and everything is running beautifully now.

Overall, the software was truly our only real issue, and I am very pleased with this item and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone as each and every piece is well made, works perfectly, and should last us for many, many years to come. With this kind of peace-of-mind, I sleep much sounder than I have in previous months and feel that my family is much safer.

5Good set, not for beginners.
By DC Reviews
This system is pretty good, the interface is kind of basic and can be confusing for some newer people. There is a fan on this device, although it runs with a sound, it isn’t as loud, but it is indeed audible so it is advisable to keep this in a cabinet or something like that.

Interface:

The interface is really really basic like 16-bit color scheme with no template or anything the outer interface where you interact with the camera is easy to use, but the configuration can get icky if you don’t run the wizard which helps you configure access and add the cameras to the box. All in all the interface is good, but can be improved so that it looks better and has easier access to essential functions that run the cameras.

Box:

The box is super small and compact, the only thing I did notice was that it didn’t have easy access to the hard drives, so if I wanted to add a hard drive or change out the hard drives (there are 2 slots) I would need to disassemble the box to add or replace the drive. It comes with only a 500GB harddrive which can store about a week or so of continuous video which is OK. The box fan is indeed audible so it is advised to put it somewhere so that it can block out the noise.

Device:

I currently have this running inside my garage because the cables that it comes with won’t be long enough to reach the outside of my house to the locations that I want so if you would want to install it outside, you should probably look into getting some longer cables, but if you were to install these at a business which is inside, the cables should be long enough to do the job. Comes with a remote and mouse which work fine and is useful when you are browsing the device.

Setup:

Setup is easy, you just hook up everything, turn the device on and run the wizard that pops up and it adds the cameras and configures the basic settings that you need for it to work, you may need to configure it yourself.

Included Cameras:

These included cameras are small and pretty good quality, 2MP doesn’t provide a large image so if you want to see things that are far away, it may be blurry, but if you are looking for close range view, these cameras are great because they provide a good short range view, very clear and crisp during the day and night.

In the end, this is actually quite a good system if the price was reduced a bit. This set isn’t beginner friendly as it doesn’t come with a manual and some of the features can be confusing. But for me, this is a 5* system not because I got it for review and my review is honest and unbiased, but the system is well crafted the bundle is perfect as it comes with all of the essentials that you would need for a HDCVI camera, it includes the wires, 2 good quality cameras and a small compact box that you can hide.
