Once deciding to buy a brand new camera or simply improving the one which you have, there are many factors to consider. There are some fantastic makes and models of cameras in the stores, but a good secure point and shoot camera is merely as good as a digital single lens camera. An average person uses their camera for taking family shots, and getaway images and though they do not really understand mega pixels, resolution and exposure, as long as their camera takes a good picture, they will be pleased with the results. The technology in a point and shoot camera is fantastic these days and nights, that they can now outperform some more expensive cameras on the market.

Much better than I expected
By Mir Islam
I was skeptical to buy this camera given that it had only review and even that was negative. But I went ahead anyway. I purchased it for my Hawaii trip where I was expecting to be on the beach and also snorkeling. I have had several digital cameras (canon/nikon) and also DSLRs. The quality of picture is actually very much comparable to my canon Elph 530HS. Bonus is I could take this one to water. I took it snorkeling one day and took several pictures and videos under water. Quality of pictures underwater was surprisingly good. But that will depend on the day and how much sunlight was going under the water. I took it about 5 feet deep into the water and no leak or damage. For the price I think it definitely is a good buy. BTW it also takes great picture out of the water ! Only thing I have not tried is taking pictures at night. Attaching a couple of pictures.

Great, easy to use, fun family digital camera…at first, buttons/doors started sticking after 1.5 months. Returning.

My husband, whose job involves working around water, recently dropped his digital camera into a water tank near where he was taking photos. Needless to say, this destroyed his camera. In checking out digital prospects to replace it at the local department store, I saw the S33 Waterproof Digital and recommended it to him. He agreed and we bought it.
He’s taken pictures outside of our pond, which were comparable in quality to any digital camera we’ve ever had. He’s taken both photos and videos under water at his work and we were both amazed at quality of both.
This camera is very easy to use and we both had a very good handle on all of its features within a very short time. The effects are fun to play with and there are a lot of settings for various types of photos you may be taking (fireworks, night, outside, face recognition, etc.). It zooms in/out easily and there are separate buttons for photo and video (video also records audio), making it very easy to just point and start shooting right away. It didn’t come with an SD card but I bought a 16g one on sale for $10 which was a great deal.
I have to admit that part of me didn’t trust a camera that claimed to be waterproof and we didn’t dare use it underwater at first after we first bought it but eventually we figured that it was meant to be used underwater, and was under warranty, so we tried it and were very happy with the results. My husband loves his new camera and he loves to take pictures and videos: of nature, underwater, scenic, wildlife, etc. He’s really happy with our choice and thrilled that we went with a waterproof one. Now he isn’t worried about dropping it in water. The price was ridiculously reasonable considering how much other waterproof cameras cost; did not break the budget at all.
My husband’s previous camera was a Nikkon Coolpix S01, a tiny thing: he had a white one and I still have my red one. Though I absolutely love the S01, I think a waterproof camera would be so much fun and this one has proven to be a super camera for us non-professional photogs. This is a great camera for the whole family and super easy to use for the technically non-inclined. I was going to say ‘easy for kids’ as well but kids are often more technically inclined than their elders anyway. Still, with a camera like this, you don’t have to worry about getting it wet, dropping it, or leaving it outdoors accidently overnight in the winter (even in Canada) as it is waterproof to 33 feet, shockproof to 5′, and temperature safe to 14 degrees below zero (celcius, I’m assuming). If something happened to my own S01, I’d definitely make this my next camera as well.
I’m including a photo I took of our pond the other day to show photo quality (has lots of colors to judge by).
FOLLOW UP (Aug. 30/15): Camera’s on button starting sticking in the depressed position but will still turn on/off. Button that you use to open the SD card/plugs compartment is also sticking and won’t open/close well. The door to the compartment is sticking and it’s hard to open/close it. Needless to say I am taking the camera back tomorrow for a new one (if they have one)…if they don’t, I’ll see what else they have. I knew it was too good to be true.

Now, I’m not going to tell you that you can take better photos with a point and shoot camera than you can with an DIGITAL CAMERA. But, I’m not going to tell you that you aren’t take good photos with them either. If a point and shoot has an aperture priority, shutter release priority, or a hands-on shooting mode, you may have some pretty good control over the actual image will look like. But, even if it doesn’t have custom shooting modes, you can still get favorable results. After all, there are groups of photographers that pride themselves on getting great photos using only their cell phone cameras.
