5Great point and shoot camera
By MinnieWinnie
So far after checking to make sure everything works as described…. this is an amazing point and shoot camera.
bought this to compliment my main camera canon 70D. I needed a smaller camera to fit in pocket or the bag I carry main camera in… this works perfect…. bought this also for the 4K capability and the post focus ability and it all works fine in this small compact camera… I have the lumix dmc-zs7 and it took good pictures and video… but the sharpness is way better on this new camera… I am still messing around on this, so I have not used this in a real scenario scene, only for testing in house and outside, and I am impressed with video and picture quality in such a small camera… zoom works great and better than all other point and shoot cameras I have used, but I would not zoom in on subjects to max, sharpness gets very dull and cloudy…. now with my camera, changing focus points in post focus was a little hard to figure out, but once you figure this, I love this feature, and you won’t find this in any camera or phone that I know of. Now the flash mode on and off was a little difficult to figure out on my camera, because you can’t use flash in 4Kburst or in post focus modes.

There are many many functions on this camera I have not yet played with, like changing picture scenes, expressive, monochrome, high key etc, for giving your pictures even more style… I also love taking video in 4k and freezing frames in action and using that pic to print off.
I am getting a charger and a couple more batteries for this, because you do drain the battery quick when in 4K bursts and using post focusing modes… also it’s good to have a strong good SD card, I use the sandisk extreme pro speed class 3, 10.
It’s still early to see if this camera holds out long because it just came out, but I highly recommend this.

12 minor problems, 1 deal breaker
[[VIDEOID:357355105ddef599306de62a33ea5c2a]] I am posting a negative review because of two relatively small problems that may just be defects in the particular model I was shipped, and one very large issue that is a total deal breaker.

I compared this camera head-to-head, under exactly the same shooting conditions, with my existing Sony DSC-HX50V and HX20V. All the cameras were set to the idiot-proof intelligent auto mode, to allow direct comparison. Memory was a Sandisk UHS-3 sdxc 64g card.

The two smaller problems first:
(1) The LCD viewscreen goes black intermittently, for no apparent reason. This happens 2-3 times at random intervals during every 20-30 minutes of shooting. Since Panasonic probably didn’t design it’s viewscreens to do this just to annoy buyers, I assume this is simply a manufacturing defect in my particular unit.
UPDATE: A comment from another Amazon customer (see comments below) reminded me that passing a hand or other object too close to the Electronic View Finder will momentarily disable the LCD screen. This is almost certainly the cause of the temporary blackouts I experienced, so it is user error, not a defect in the camera.

(2) More serious, at full zoom, the camera has a VERY hard time finding and holding focus. The image tends to blur, re-focus, and blur again, particularly when shooting video. I noticed this both under artificial lighting and in full daylight. I noticed this same problem in the Panasonic LX100 that I used briefly in 2015. I know that long-zoom point-and-shoot cameras generally struggle with auto focus at maximum magnification when hand-held, but the ZS60 was consistently much worse at acquiring and holding focus than the HX50/HX20, which are older and presumably much less sophisticated cameras.

(3) The deal breaker: the 4k video quality is terrible. With the camera set to record 4k/30 in MP4, the default, the video playback was no better, and possibly worse, than what you would expect from an old VHS tape. Indoors or in outdoor daylight, the quality was the same. Shooting the same subjects under exactly the same conditions, the video from my 1080p Sony camera was visibly much better, which should not be the case. Very disappointing, since I assume much of the price increase of this camera over last year’s model is attributable to the addition of the 4k video feature. 1080p video also looked soft, and lacked detail, especially in indoor shooting.
UPDATE: In his comment (see comments below) Amazon customer Roger James pointed out that 4k is very demanding and failure to use a tripod when shooting 2160p video can result in serious motion blur. This is a good point, but it wasn’t the problem that caused me to return the ZS60; even when the camera was in a fixed position, with no motion, the 4k video was terribly soft and lacking in detail & clarity. It was about the quality of a poor YouTube video.

I compared the ZS60’s 4k video to video taken under the same conditions by a Sony RX100 Mark 4 in 2160p and the difference was overwhelming. Even when contrasted with 1080p video from my Sony HX20V, the 4k video from the ZS60 was so soft and degraded as to be unwatchable. The video I posted was 2160p, and apparently Amazon’s built in video player can’t stream that format yet, which is why it won’t play. If anyone wants to download the actual 4k clip I’m referring to, drop me an e-mail at & I’ll send you a download link.

The still pictures were not quite as bad, but again they were visibly inferior to my older Sony camera(s) when shooting under identical conditions.
Since the other 2 posted reviews of this camera give it a very high score, it seems possible that I just got a lemon. We’re still very early in the production run of this brand new camera, so that wouldn’t be terribly unusual. However, I can only report on the specific unit I was shipped, which was unacceptable and is being returned.

5Very Fun Point and Shoot
By M W
My first Panasonic camera. Purchased this for the zoom, portability and video capabilities. Does fit in pants pocket, but is heavier and larger than I expected. I posted size comparisons with other cameras I own. Very fun camera to have with me all day. Start up is fast. Zooming in and out is fast as well. The lense is silent while zooming. Which is great when shooting video. The lenses I have for my Nikon D5500 are very noisy and constantly re-focusing. Althogh, the video quality on my d5500 is excellent. My Canon SL1 Rebel is much better at shooting video than my Nikon. Canon’s STM lenses are extremely quiet. Focusing is much better, too. The zs60 is awesome for video. Even in low light, the zs60 is crisp at 1080p. The 4K video is also a feature I was interested in. Surprising features is the shooting of high speed videos @ 120fps and 240fps. The higher speed will film in 480 resolution, but is still amazing looking. The still picture quality is as expected for the small sensor. Decent pictures, but don’t expect lots of depth to pics. Also, cropping your pics will show all of the noise that the 1/2.3″ sensor has.
The zs60 feels solid, and has a good weight to it. The control dial on the top and the back of the camera feel cheap. The control ring feels solid. It can be used for manual focusing or changing aperture or shutter speed. Lots of customizations are a attainable because most of the buttons are programmable. The flash is in a bad spot. I have to make sure that i’m holding the camera a certain way or my middle finger will partially block the flash.
Both viewfinders are amazingly sharp. I never thought i would use an EVF style viewfinder, but this camera’s is really nice. It comes in handy if sunlight is extremely bright.
The battery seems to have decent life on it. It doesn’t compare to my D5500, but it seems about average. A trick I use to keep the screen from coming on when i don’t want it is too place a finger near the eye sensor next to the EVF. The menu system is responsive and crisp. There are a lot of features packed into this camera. It’ll take a while to try them all out. The artistic filters are excellent. They can turn the otherwise flat pictures into something better.
I have shot video in 4k, but I don’t have anything to view them with. So I can’t comment on that. But i have tried the 4K burst mode of photographs. Almost all of the pics from burst mode were grainy. The backgrounds were very mushy looking. I took them when it was cloudy outside, so maybe I would have better results if the sun was out. Still experimenting.
Overall, I really enjoy using this camera.

Update: I haven’t been able to figure out the Wi-Fi on this camera. It’s confusing.
Regarding the pictures I posted, the first one was shot with Artistic Expression filter in the Creative Mode. The second was shot in iA mode. the third and fourth shows the range of the lens. Look in the middle of the parking lot picture. You’ll see the white clock tower. that’s at 24mm. the fourth pic is the clock tower at 720mm. 5th-7th are just size comparisons.

Features of this product

  • 30x (24-720mm) LEICA DC Lens optical zoom performance is ideally suited for travel and everyday photography
  • 18 Megapixel sensor delivers high-resolution photos with fewer image artifacts
  • 4K Ultra HD video recording plus exclusive LUMIX 4K PHOTO and 4K Post Focus photo capture features
  • Eye-level Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) and touch-enabled LCD for a wider viewing experience
  • Lens-mounted control ring brings DSLR-like exposure control to a compact point-and-shoot camera body

Right now, I’m not going to tell you that you can take better photos with a point and shoot camera than you can with an DIGITAL CAMERA. But, I’m never going to notify you that you can’t take good photos with them either. If a point and shoot has an aperture priority, shutter priority, or a tutorial shooting mode, you should have some pretty good control over the particular photography will look like. But, even if it doesn’t have custom shooting modes, you can still get favorable results. After all, there are groups of photographers that pride themselves on getting great photos using only their cellular phone cameras.

That’s everything you must know relating to this product. With this type of comprehensive input, you’re going to get sufficient guideline so there’s not really a single opportunity to make the wrong decision. Don’t forget that best valued one isn’t always be the cheapest one. Price won’t be a problem when it meets your preference. Off course, you’re someone to decide and when your final decision for this product is a no, we’ve got reviews for another products from the same category. There’s possibility you could find the thing you need from one of them. Thanks a lot and have a superb day!
