good system with quality cameras
By Douglas A. Learn
I have replaced my old security cameras with this one. The picture quality of these cameras are very good. When installed in the house in darkness it looks just like a daytime picture just in gray scale. The DVR was easy to set up and just took a short amount of time. Learning all the feature and how to search takes a little playing around to get it figured out. The software for viewing your cameras on your computer was a bit tricky and the instructions could be a bit clearer. I am disappointed in the fact that I bought this system to be able to view it away from my house on my phone and tablet. If you use Hughesnet Gen 4 satellite service you will not be able to monitor away from your home network. after doing some research I found several internet providers that can not provide you with the connection you will need so I recommend you check into this before you purchase.

Good system, but has a few issues
I purchased this system to replace an older Defender system that we had installed 4 years ago. I am very happy with the picture quality of this system. Both day and night is much clearer than the old system we had. The camera’s plugged right into the existing bnc/power cables we had installed, so it was a very easy installation. We did have RCA cables running to 3 different areas broadcasting the footage from the existing dvr and had to install an hdmi splitter and new hdmi cables to all the monitors. The cables were cheap, but it would have been nice to have an RCA out on the dvr. ***UPDATE: OLDER CAMERA’S DO WORK, JUST A SETTING ISSUE*** I am disappointed that the older cameras i have are not compatible with this system. I assumed my older cameras would be usable. the system came with 10 cameras, which is 1 more than our older system. However, 2 of the cameras we were using are wireless and useless with this upgrade. this is a 16 camera system and i was hoping to take advantage of all of the bnc inputs with hardware from my older unit. I would have given this product 5 stars, but the compatibility issue is a problem. If i want to add additional cameras, I will have to spend a lot more money. Additionally, I have searched for wireless cameras for this unit, but have not come up with any compatible products.
EDIT: So i finally got everything completely up and running. the quality of this system day and night is amazing. It was a little difficult to get it to stream over the net, but once i figured it out, I love it. at night in complete darkness everything is very clear. During the day i have a crystal clear picture. If you are connecting this unit to the internet, view the readme file on the big cd for connecting it to your router. The file starts with how to set up your computer to connect to the network and then it breaks down how to install a router. IF YOU HAVE A HOME NETWORK ALREADY SET UP, dont let it confuse you. SKIP EVERYTHING AND GO TO THE END where it explains how to set up port forwarding for your brand of router. you have to open a couple ports and install the ipolis software from the samsung site and you are ready to go.

Nice system for the price
Great system for the money, especially considering you get 10 IR cameras. Image quality is quite adequate with clear images over 100′ away. Viewing software and web access is GREATLY improved over older systems like the SDE-120. The one complaint I do have is that the camera pigtails are too short which in some mounting situations could result in the connections having to be left in the elements requiring an extra step of weatherproofing them.
As a side note, Samsung provides web access through their iPOLiS, but I would suggest if you are not aware of how to set up web access without this service you should find someone who can help you unless you don’t mind the potential for someone other than you viewing what your system can ‘see’.

A whole lot of crimes are occurring in the home. This has increased the requirement to have a security system in the home. Parents and homeowners are not always at home. Thus, important things and people are left at home unprotected and unsafe from people who are out to do them harm. Since parents are gone for a long time everyday, a security DVR is the only thing that can deal with this as compared to VCRs that can only control small amounts of time.
