Excellent value for the DIY self starter
First a quick disclaimer, as a landlord, homeowner and small business owner I’ve installed several security systems and oodles of stand alone cameras both for myself and others. From very basic wi-fi cameras to full systems, installing a system has become MUCH easier…there is no need to convert analog to digital signals (thankfully!) and many are now basically plug and play. However, there are quite a few things prospective buyers need to keep in mind in order to make an informed decision. I’ll try to outline the good, bad and neutral about this system.
The very first thing you will want to compare is probably the price and this one is hard to beat! Basically you are getting an entire system for not a lot more than the price of a single camera from other systems. Now, as you would expect, there are some trade-off’s…this is not one of those “too good to be true” situations…this is a decent little set but only if you understand what you need and how it will be used. There are absolutely some situations where this will simply not be a strong enough system.
So, who would benefit from this system? Basically anyone that needs a very light duty basic starter set with easy installation and the ability to get up and started without much hassle. This is NOT a WifI system so you WILL need to run wires. The good news is that almost everything you need is included in the box – unlike many basic systems that leave out the cables, connections etc, this has everything EXCEPT for the hard drive…you will need to purchase the hard drive separately. Otherwise, this has four channels and four cameras – some systems advertise a lot of channels but then force you to buy more cameras to actually use all the channels…on the other hand, this is not going to be as easy to expand if you need more cameras later. This does come with a DVR – you can use pretty much any standard hard drive.
Next, you will need to know how to assign an IP, change your passwords and set-up the software to really make full use of this system and here is where it gets a bit tricky. If you are new to this and have never set one up before, the instructions are not the best…you need to plan accordingly. Additionally, this IS a wired system so you will need to install the cameras and climb around running wires. That’s the bad news. The good news is that wired cameras are MUCH more secure…I own both types…wireless and wired. I use wireless for a few select situations such as looking in on a common room or with elderly parents but for the majority of my personal system, I go with wires and then backup to the cloud. It’s safer and more secure. It’s also more of a headache to initially install.
As for the camera’s…these are 720p which means “okay” vision. If you are familiar with old models, these are a vast improvement. On the other hand, if you compare these to 1080 HD then these will have much less detail and not have the ability to pick up faces etc as far away. These do just fine for average sized rooms inside a home, garage or even outside the house…these are rated for indoor and outdoor installation. Outdoor these will work fine for an entrance, driveway etc..don’t expect great detail out to the street though – they are not sensitive enough for anything other than picking up big things like a vehicle…not facial details. The camera’s are metal construction…a point that I was surprised to encounter since several well known budget priced sets sold on this site are using plastic cameras. The cables are included although again, these are thinner but will get the job done. For a basic system like this you won’t want to run super long lines as the signal tends to deteriorate…if you want or need to run very long lines then plan on buying a replacement cable…otherwise, this will work just fine. Hook up is super simple – literally just plug in once in place. Bottom line, this is a budget system but an absolute bargain for the DIY type who just needs a quick system to get up and running. Coupon code resulted in low/no price purchase for evaluation.

Bought for $160 and it is a great product. Received one DEA camera
Bought for $160 and it is a great product. Received one DEA camera, but emailed them and they shipped out a new camera that day. It came from China so took about 9 days to get here, but still was a very painless process.
The quality is good – so far they have been up for about 4 weeks in the rain and storms and have done fine.
Been very very happy with them. The customer service and product are great. Giving 4 stars because it did come with a dead piece but it was fixed immediately and painlessly.

A whole lot of crimes are occurring in the home. This has increased the necessity to have a security system in your home. Parents and homeowners aren’t always at home. Therefore, important things and people are left at home unprotected and unsafe from people who are to be able to do them harm. Since parents are gone for a long time everyday, a security DVR is the only thing that can deal with this as compared to VCRs that can easily control small amounts of time.
