The Y-cam works for me, exactly as they claim it should.
By L. Gately
I purchased a Y-cam HomeMonitor Indoor in May and installed it in my vacation house in Hawaii (as I’m in CA). I probably spent 50 hours of research and a dozen more hours with other IP cam products (that I eventually gave away to my brother), The Y-cam concept scared me, at first. It seemed too good to be true. In fact, installing the Y-cam was extremely easy for me using my iPad (instead of my iMac). I realize that I could’ve done the process with a computer, but I didn’t want to haul one to Hawaii. Really, I could’ve installed this with my iPhone! It’s not tough. You plug in the power to the camera. You connect the provided ethernet cable to the camera and wifi port. Then you log on to the Y-cam set-up address (provided). You enter the camera code (provided) and your personal wifi password (they call it a “wireless key” in the UK) and then wait a minute. Done. Using the free app, you can set up motion detection zones and schedules. I get a message and/or eMail when there’s something moving in my home (moths are too often the culprit).
I’ve had the camera installed for half a year. When the neighborhood power went down, I got a message telling me the camera was offline. I get videos saved for a week on the free service, and I can download those to my computer (my aunt and uncle drop in to my home to make sure everything’s going well, and they leave me a video update). Last week, I purchased two more cameras, one for my CA home and an additional one for my house in Hawaii, just because I love to keep an eye on my house in Hawaii… wouldn’t you?
BTW, when I installed my first Y-cam, I recorded the process and posted it on YouTube. Search for “Y-cam HomeMonitor installation” or follow this link: http://youtu.be/c4LGd0JMvMI
I have no connection to their business and I hope you find a camera for your needs.

The good and the bad
Good: picture quality is pretty good, and night vision is surprisingly strong when objects aren’t too far away. Small, unobtrusive design. Nice web interface and the email alerts worked as expected.
Bad: Had a lot of trouble getting it to work with my Linksys router (for Wi-Fi, wired access worked well). The motion sensor is where I have a real issue: It doesn’t come to life fast enough for me. I tested it by placing it on my kitchen counter, pointed at the back door. I then went to the office and let it run all day, looking to see when I would get emails that movement had been detected. It emailed me promptly when it detected movement, however, when I would watch the replay online, I would *maybe* get the trail end of the person, but usually I wouldn’t get any action at all, because by the time the camera sprung to life, the person had already walked by. That’s not good, IMO.
I can see it working in some circumstances, but I ended up returning the product because it isn’t what I’m looking for.

Y-cam HomeMonitor Indoor Cameras
By Kin Ng
Like other security minded home owners, I have been researching and reading up on the many brands of quality cameras that are WIFI and IP setup friendly. Keep in mind this is a not a PTZ camera.
There are indeed many choices but at the end I chose the Y-Cam HomeMonitor line of cameras. My criteria are simple: clarity of images and video, and simple set up. The FREE 7-day video archive feature serves as a tie-breaker and a bonus. If you owned or have been looking at Dropcam, then you know there is a monthly fee for its DVR feature.
After I put my first camera to work, I am even more impressed with its build and image quality. The camera connection is very stable provided you have good internet service. The motion detection alert email is instant and you have full control of all the camera features via a web user interface. I love the wide angle lens broad area coverage. There is a functional Ipad/Iphone app and I heard they are rolling out the android app and introducing a Roku channel in the U.S. soon. If there are issues, they are either pretty minor or user preference items. The Customer Support has been excellent and responds quickly to questions.
How satisfy am I ? I have three Y-cam HomeMonitor indoor cameras deployed at two different locations.

A remote surveillance security system permits you to monitor the home while away. If you go on a vacation, are in the office, or away on business, you can have access via internet to view what your surveillance cameras are catching on online video. This type of secureness system is suitable for family members who are often aside for extended periods, offices that contain chronic theft or perhaps vandalism problems, and households with members that require the aid of a caretaker if left by itself.
